Nov. 9-12
Auto Club Raceway at
Pomona, CA
The Rancho Framing / White Cap / Direct transport Camaro Top Alcohol Funny Car
reaching the semi finals for the 5th time this year.
Qualifying:
Mark put the Rancho framing Camaro solidly into the show on the first pass down the
track with a 5.705/249.26. which would put him in the #4 position in the first round of
qualifying. In the 2nd round of qualifying the car got loose and Mark had to lift before
the finish line. For the 3rd round of qualifying we made some wholesale changes on the
tune up because the car was too violent and would either run good or spin the tires too
much. The car ran a conservative (5.901/245.81) on the last pass, but it went down
the track without any problems and plenty of room for improvement. The last run also
let us see which way we needed to go on the tune up. We ended up in the 9th position
when Qualifying was finished and would face #8 qualifier Veteran Vern Moats in the
first round.
The Race:
In the First round of Competition the car responded well to the changes we made and
went right down the track without any problems with a 5.686 @ 251.39 mph and took
the win as Vern Moats rattled the tires and was forced to lift. In the 2nd round of the
race we faced off against Hank Coolidge. Mark left first and easily took the win with a
5.757 @ 251.81mph when Hank had problems and shut off. In the semi final round
against David Ray and the Follow a Dream team we had lost lane choice, but they took
the lane we didn’t want. When both cars were staging Mark went in shallow and the
stage light bulb started to flicker, so he rolled in a little deeper about the same time
the tree was activated, slowing his reaction time. David left first with a 0.041 light
and ran a 5.706 @ 255.77 mph, Mark had a 0.136 light coupled with a 5.644 @
253.56 mph (low ET of eliminations), but because David Ray had a better reaction time
Mark lost the Race.
We had a decent year finishing #22 in National points and tying for #6 in the Pacific
Division 7 points with only a minimum amount of races. We were glad to end the year on
a high note and look forward to an even better season next year.
We would like to thank our sponsors who have helped us through out the year and we
look forward to their support next year.

POWERade Drag Racing Series, 42nd annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane,
driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.705/249.26, Now #1
Right Lane: John Weaver Runs 5.801/241.93, Now #5
Woznichak waited until Weaver was about 200 feet out before he left so it was hard to compare his run to
Weaver's by eyeball. The timers did a pretty good job though and 'The Woz' is the new leader in the
clubhouse. Weaver's run was nice until about the finish line when he trailed a bit of smoke out of the pipes.
A little bit of damage but no cleanup.
POMONA, Calif. - POMONA 2 - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car
Left Lane: Mike Drake Runs 5.875/248.29, Now #16
Best prior run: 5.980/243.37, Was #18
Right Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.908/224.43, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.705/249.26, Was #4
Drake appeared to get a late start on the burnout and the tracks are barely far enough back that the crew
can line him up. Drake made the situation work and he bumps in on the bubble. Woz slows a ton from hit hit
on Thursday. Couldn't see what happened but it did sound like the rpms got away from one driver or the
other before the shift.
POMONA, Calif. - POMONA 2 - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car
Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.901/245.81, Now #6
Best prior run: 5.705/249.26, Was #5
Right Lane: Dennis Taylor Runs 5.668/252.99, Now #5
Best prior run: 5.787/247.43, Was #17
Taylor waited until the very last moment but he uncorks a great pass and slides right into the top half of
the field. That bumped Miner from the field.

the wall. He could only watch as 'The Woz' takes the win on his best hit of the weekend.

Coolidge has a horrible light and then has the car go away on him. Those two items might have been a
package as he was off the throttle early. Woznichak goes on for the win and will face Day in the other semi
without choice.
