Woz salvages a hard weekend of racing with a Semi- Final finish. Between the
bad weather and parts breakage Mark Woznichak and his Direct Transport /
Waterone Camaro Top Alcohol Funny Car manage to pull out a Semi –Final
finish at this year’s Winternationals.
In the first round of qualifying Mark had to lift when the car went towards the
centerline and on the second qualifying session the rear axle broke and almost
put the car into the wall. Fortunately there was a short field and Mark still
qualified for the field in the #14 position.
The First round put us up against #1 qualifier Sean O’Bannon in his Chevrolet
Monte Carlo. We did not have lane choice and were put in the right lane. Sean
was off the line first, but Mark quickly passed him when Sean shook and had to
lift. Mark went on to run a decent 5.609 @ 255.58 mph
Because we beat the #1 qualifier in round one, we had a bye run in the second
round. We elected to try the left lane in case we did not have lane choice in the
Semi Final round. On this run we ran a 5.617 @ 250.04 mph slowing a little
when Mark lifted early.
In the Semi-Final round Mark faced off with Doug Gordon in the Morro Bay
Cabinets Monte Carlo. We were on our best run of the weekend running our
best 60’ time of .948 when we broke a rocker arm which over boost the other 7
cylinders and torched the head. We would have had a hard time beating Doug
who left the starting line first and went on to run a 5.54

The track guys are done cleaning up all of the oil from behind the burnout box to
just after. The track has cooled down to 74 degrees now.
The Woz has a good leave and then kicks the tires at the 2-3 shift.
Gasparrelli is long gone and moves up to the new #8 spot on a clean pass.

dramatically different than last night's 6:00PM cancellation, when the track has
became too cold for competition,.
O'Bannon gets a nice lead off the line and then has issuers with traction and
shifting. He tries it again several times and has to give it up.
Woznichak gets a full pass this time and it's a good one too.
In round two: Bartone has lane choice over DeJoria; Gasparrelli over Williamson;
Gordon over Bellemeur; and the winner gets a Bye Run.
