The Rancho Framing / White Cap Camaro overcame problems from the rain shortened
qualifying and ended up in the 6th position. Over the winter we found some more horsepower in
our engine and it took us a few runs to figure out how to get the power to the pavement. In the
first round of qualifying we smoked the tires before the 60 foot cone. On the 2nd run we calmed
the car down with some gearing changes and ran a 5.69 @ 252 mph. Because of the rain delays
we did not get a third qualifying pass and went straight into the first round Saturday night. Our
opponent in the first round was Steve Gasparrelli and even though he was in as an alternate for
Mert Littlefield who couldn't return after crashing his car into the sand trap. We knew Steve
would be tough if they figured their car out. They left together, both cutting .050 lights and Mark
was ahead at the 330 ft cone when he stared spinning the tires and drifted towards the
centerline and had to lift giving the win to Gassparrelli. Our next race is the Phoenix Division
Race (check the schedule for the dates). Although we did not start the year as we had hoped, we
intend to win a few races this year. Here are the notes from the race courtesy of NHRA.com:
