Mark Woz driving the Rancho Framing / White Cap / Direct Transport / Camaro Top
Alcohol Funny, had a decent outing at his home track in Fontana which is only 9 miles from
where he resides in Ontario, CA.
The car ran pretty good till 2nd gear where the transition from concrete to asphalt
begins and it started to lose traction forcing Mark to shift into 3rd sooner than he
wanted to.
The Blower belt broke on the burn out in the 2nd round of qualifying, forcing Mark to
shut off before the run.
In the 3rd round of qualifying he ran a 5.920/244.52 mph, but still held on to the #4
qualifying position for the event. On that run the car ran good on the top end through
the transition, but was slower at the beginning of the run. We later found that the car
had broken a finger on the clutch, which may have been the problem.
In the first round of eliminations we faced one of our Division 7 regulars Mert Littlefield.
We knew it would be a close race since we were the #4 qualifier and Mert was #5.They
left the line almost together and Mark ran 3 hundredths better to take the win by 8
feet, a 5.855 to 5.884 both running 245 mph.
In the Semi Final round Mark was up against the #1 qualifier Ron August. We knew we
had to run a few hundredths better if we were going to beat Ron so we stepped on the
bottom end a little, but it was more than the 122 degree track could handle and the car
smoked the tires about 20 feet out causing Mark to lift. Ron went on to run Low ET of
the race a 5.786 248.16 mph.
