February 9 - 12
Pomona, CA
Mark Woznichak and the Color by Woz – Direct Transport – Waterone Racing team were very
excited to have their new Victory Race cars Monte Carlo Top Alcohol Funny Car at this year’s
season opening Winternationals. During the first round of qualifying Mark lifted early due to
tire shake. On the 2nd pass Mark improved to a 5.80 @ 253 mph even though he had to pedal
the car twice to calm down the tire shake. On the 3rd qualifier Mark was shut off after the
burn out when NHRA Safety Safari found oil on the track from the previous pair. We elected to
run at the end of the session after refueling. On the last qualifier the car ran good moving into
the 7th position with a 5.640 @ 255 mph.
In the First round we were paired up with Shane Westerfield’s CP-Carrillo Monte Carlo. The
new car left good with our best 60ft time of the race (.942), but then went into tire shake.
Mark tried to drive through it until it got out of the groove and hit the 330ft cone still running
2.52 to that point. This gave the win to Shane and we were done for the weekend. Our new
car did win a ”Wally” for Best Appearing Car and we were pleased with the performance of
our new Victory chassis.
