Framing / White Cap / Direct Transport team knew that it would be a battle just to qualify for the race. In the first round of qualifying Mark ran a 5.77 @ 249 mph which left him just out of the field in the # 9 position. In the second round of qualifying the team had clutch problems and the car pulled through the staging lights voiding any E.T. We were now bumped down to the 13th position with the threat of rain coming for the last qualifying session. The last run was good, putting us in the 6th position at the time with a 5.711 @ 249.58 mph. All we could do now is wait while several other very capable teams tried to bump us from the 8 car field. When the dust had settled we ended up in the # 7 position and would be racing Sean O’Bannon in the first round. For the first round we kept the clutch tune up basically the same and stepped on the motor a little bit, not wanting to shake or spin the tires too much and give the race away . Sean got a slight lead over Mark at the start with a .072 light to Mark’s .086, Mark had a little shake on the run and Sean beat us to the finish line by .06 seconds running a 5.66 to our losing 5.72 @ 251.34 mph. |
