O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals
Houston, TX
March 30-April 1
Tire shake and rain plagued the Rancho Framing / White Cap / Direct Transport racing team all
weekend at the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals. With the event shortened by rain we only made
3 runs all weekend. On our first run, the Woz encountered tire shake almost immediately after
leaving the line and had to abort the run. The second qualifying pass was running good until a
lifter broke and the car slowed to a 5.766 at only 241.28 mph, which put us in the #12 position.
Saturday Qualifying was rained out and we went into 1rst round on Sunday and we were
matched up with Von Smith. Von left slightly ahead of Mark with a .029 light to Mark’s .049.
Shortly after leaving the line Mark’s car went into severe tire shake and he had to lift giving the
win to Von Smith, who had just banged the blower and coasted through the finish line. We have
had a lot of problems with tire shake lately, so for the next race we are going to build a new
wheelie bar and that should cure the problem.
