SONOMA, Calif. - SONOMA - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol
Funny Car at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 18th annual
FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals presented by Supercuts listing lane, driver
name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.648/252.95, Now #1
Right Lane: Bucky Austin Runs 5.842/255.05, Now #4
Wow! The Woz puts almost a tenth on the field and he bumps Taylor
down a spot. Bucky left with Woznichak but before half track he had lost
almost two car lengths to The Woz.

Left Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 7.439/108.19, Now #6
Best prior run: 5.717/250.69, Was #6
Right Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.686/251.25, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.648/252.95, Was #1
Gordon was on a nice pass until half track when it appeared some engine
problems set in. Another sixty for The Woz but he slows from his earlier
pass.

Gordon moves well up into the order with his 5.66. The Woz was already
quicker than his 5.660 so he'll sit on his earlier run.

(L) Rian Konno (Firebird) 0.095 11.285 82.33
Konno took a huge early lead and must have thrown a real scare into
Woznichak as he looked out the front window. Konno's car got loose and
he was forced to lift and give away all that lead and more. The Woz has
choice over Hudson.

Woznichak with a lot tire shake right off the starting line and was out of
the groove and clicked it off. Hudson with clean pass for the win.
